Your best luggage carrier buying option

Luggage carriers and vacation travels are part and parcel. With the onset of the vacation season, families have started hitting the roads. If you want to make your vacation a truly big occasion, you cannot ignore the importance of a hitch carrier or a cargo carrier. It is very difficult to accommodate your entire luggage between the spaces in the car where the passengers sit. If you are traveling by motorcycle, the task is more horrible. Therefore, it is more than a necessity to have an outside vehicle storage so that you can facilitate your trip according to your own desire.

In fact, there are several kinds of luggage carriers and cargo carriers available in the market. These carriers serve ideally to carry the additional burden necessary for a stretched road journey. Some of the luggage carriers that are doing the rounds in the market include rooftop luggage carrier, hitch carrier, hitch mounted carrier and cargo hitch carrier. The rooftop luggage carrier is one of the highly sought after kind of luggage carrier. It needs a roof rail system with crossbars.

There are instances that a vehicle does not have the rail system attached with it. In that case, you have to come in contact with an auto dealer to add the facility. You can also go online and get a well-matched rail system that is offered by several online manufacturers. However, should make it a point to verify the manufacturer requirements to see if your vehicle's roof can take the load.

Again, in the rooftop section, there are two types of rooftop carriers. These are hard rooftop carriers and soft rooftop carriers. Each of these kinds has the advantages and disadvantages of its own. It is entirely based on what your requirements are. Therefore, you would have to be extra cautious and show a bit of prudence in opting for any of them.

The rear mount carrier or hitch mount carrier is fastened with the rear part of the vehicle with the help of a 2 inch or 1.25 inch receiver. Each vehicle has an estimated pulling capacity and that is why each vehicle is given proper receiver hitch in place. The dealership is your best option to add the receiver in your vehicle as it is well aware of the pulling capacity of your vehicle. Some vehicles already have the facility of a receiver hitch in place.

What you need is a good rooftop cargo carrier

American's are all about material possessions. We have so much stuff that most of households are spilling over with stuff. This phenomenon also applies to our vehicles. When we take a road trip these days we need box van to carry all of the junk. Or do we?

I have a Toyota Camry, three kids and a wife. And when we took a road trip last month I was blown away by how much stuff we had to take. Besides the essentials: luggage, snacks and maybe a map, we now need DVD players, movies, CD players and CDs, video games, laptops, car seats, portable coolers and a GPS unit. My van had more electric wires running through cabin then a 747 jet plane. It was a chaotic mess, distracting too.

When we stopped for lunch at some diner, the kids opened the doors and stuffed spilled out like it was under pressure. A young man was standing next to his Subaru witnessed this comedy and said to me as we were walking by, "what you need is a good cargo carrier," as he tapped his Thule cargo carrier. "Good advice, thanks," I said. And it really was. I chided myself for this oversight.

Upon our return I immediately set-out to correct this oversight. I started my search where I always do these days, the internet. I immediately discovered a ton of websites offering various brands and models, it was quite overwhelming. I gravitated towards the Thule brand as that is one I know. Thule has a great selection and in the end I chose a Thule Sidekick. It mounted right on to my existing racks and is totally weatherproof. It opens on the side and has eight cubic feet of storage space which is awesome. Sometimes strangers can offer some pretty good advice.

Our next trip was to a breeze and it was so nice to have all our stuff in the cargo carrier rather then stuffed behind the rear seats blocking the rear window and on the floor getting stepped on. Our stuff stayed totally dry and because it was locked, we didn't have to take it out when we stayed at a hotel. The construction of the cargo carrier was a little flimsy but I didn't spring for the super expensive one. So for the money it has been a good value.

If you are suffering a similar space dilemma, cargo carriers are the way to go and I, for one, would recommend the Thule cargo carrier.

Cargo Carriers Make the Difference in Road Travel

Vacation Travel is in full swing and many families are taking to the road. Before stuffing those suitcases and duffel bags in the space between the passengers consider the use of outside the vehicle storage in order to make your trip more pleasant. Unfortunately many families are more concerned with what needs to be taken to the campground, or beach rather than where all that stuff Is going to be put. With a little pre-planning the ride will be part of the fun.

There are many types of luggage carriers and cargo carriers that can accommodate the additional items necessary for a long road trip. The choices are between a Rooftop Luggage Carrier or a Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier. If you decide to go with a Rooftop Carrier, in most cases, a rooftop luggage carrier will require a roof rail system with crossbars. If your vehicle doesn't have a rail system check with the Auto Dealership or go online to find a compatible rail system. Many vehicles have the front to rear rails but need the left to right crossbars. The cross bars are available from the dealership or in many cases can be found online as retrofitted bars. Check the manufacturer specifications to see what the roof load is before just putting any weight on the vehicle roof. There are Hard Roof Top Carriers and Soft Top Carriers. Each has advantages and disadvantages so choose based on your requirements. One way to see if the carrier dimensions will accommodate your needs is to make a string measurement on the floor of the unit size and place the items you plan to have it hold inside the string area.

The Hitch Mount or Rear Mount Carriers attach to the rear of the vehicle and require a 2 in. or 1.25 in. receiver. Each vehicle has a rated towing capacity and it is important to have the proper receiver hitch in place. The Dealership is a good place to start for this. It will know the towing capacity of the particular vehicle and do the proper hitch receiver installation. Many vehicles are already accessorized with a receiver hitch in place.

There are choices with the type of Hitch Mount Cargo Carriers as well. There are Hard Rear Mount Carriers and Combination Metal Trays with or without Soft Carrier Bags. Many of the Rear Mount Carriers offer mounting accessories for bikes, fishing poles, tables, and more. The choices are many and varied. The internet is a good place to search for the proper Hitch Mount Carrier that fits your requirements. When buying your hitch carrier, it is a good idea to spend a little more and get a Locking Hitch Pin to hold your carrier securely in place on the receiver.

Spend a little time before your trip thinking of the items that you intend to take with you and get the proper outside the vehicle storage so there is room for the passengers. Your trip will be a lot more fun.
